Hertfordshire competed in the ECCBA Champion of Champions on Sunday 13th May. The event was hosted by Cambridgeshire at the Ross Peers Sports Centre.
Hertfordshire team were represented as follows;
Singles : Ian Marvell
Pairs : George & Vera Hoare
Triples : Tom Slade, Rebecca & Craig Hearn
Fours : Dave Smith, Marilyn Cook, Martin Jenness & David Danby.
Ian managed to win 2 of his 5 games. This was a decent effort as this was his first time competing at this level. He finished with 4 points in a respectable 4th place (out of 6). George & Vera only managed to win the one game, although two of the games they lost were by narrow margins. They finished level on points with Suffolk, but had inferior shots so finished in 6th place.
The fours team matched Ian's performance winning 2 of their 5 games. They finished on 4 points and also finished in 4th place. The team that put up the best performance were the triples. While they only finished on 6 points and in third place they drew two of their 5 games, winning 2 others and only lost by one shot to the eventual winners Suffolk. If they had drawn that game they would have won the title.
See the ECCBA tournament section for full results.

Symonds Green complete the league and cup double on Saturday night as they defeated Stanstead Abbotts 7-1.
The match was a little closer than the score line suggested with all four games being quite close and keenly contested.

Good Morning All,
Hertfordshire finished their usual 5th place in yesterdays six counties event held at Braintree and hosted by Hertfordshire.
Although that does not tell the whole story as we finished just 5 points behind second placed Essex. It could have all been so different if we had not started so badly against Norfolk where we lost all 6 games and were therefore playing catch up for the remainder of the day.
If that first session could have just been split 6-6, then second place would have been ours. We should take real encouragement from yesterdays performance and look to carry our form into the National Championships at Potters in November.
A special note and congratulations to the the teams skipped by Craig Hearn and Rebecca Hearn. Both teams managed to win 4 out of their 5 games yesterday. A great effort, congratulations to all players in those two teams.

The first division is approaching its conclusion with just one game left to play. The league table on the links below is missing a 4-4 draw between Symonds Green & Stanstead Abbotts. Therefore, the final fixture is Essendon at home to Symonds Green. Anything other than an 8-0 loss will be good enough to secure Essendon the title.
