ECCBA Champion of Champions

Representatives of Hertfordshire travelled to Needham Market (Suffolk) to compete in the ECCBA Champion of Champions event on Sunday (10-05-15). The team representing Herts. was as follows;

Singles: Pete Cook

Pairs: Rebecca Hearn & Craig Hearn

Triples: Ian Carte, Jonathon Carter & David Danby

Fours: Jackie Harden, Peter English, Roy Harden & Annette Luedtke.

It was a case of what might have been for most of the teams as the fours finished 3rd (had a chance to win going into final session). The triples although they finished in 6th place were just two points behind the winners. The pairs lead the competition with three wins out of three but unfortunately had to withdraw as Craig was taken ill. The single were runners up and missed out on the title by just thee shots. In the team event we finished in 3rd position, however that was excluding the six points gained by the pairs. With those points we would have been second and with victory in one of their last two games which they did not play would have taken the title.

Essendon win SCAPA Cup

Posted by Pmcook1 on May 11, 2015 at 3:25 AM Comments comments (0)

Symonds Green were the hosts for our Presentation Night and SCAPA Cup Final on Friday (08-05-15). Around 55 people attended to watch the final between Essendon and Stanstead Abbotts and then the presentation of the trophies.

The final itself saw the fours won by Essendon and the triples won by Stanstead Abbotts after a good comeback. Therefore, going into the pairs and singles the two sides were locked on two points each.

However, Essendon had a significant shots advantage so it was likely that Stanstead Abbotts would need 3 out of the 4 points on offer. Stanstead Abbotts secured a narrow singles win to keep their hopes alive. The Essendon pair never looked in any real danger though as they won their match and with it the cup for Essendon. The final score Stanstead Abbotts 4 (25) - 4 (42) Essendon. Congratulations to Essendon who were deserving winners on the night and won the SCAPA Cup for the 2nd time in their history,the other time being way back in 1986/87.

After the final everybody enjoyed the buffet before the presentation of trophies started. Firstly, Mick Cook (County Captain) presented two new awards for this season. These were Players Player of the Season which was won by Thomas Ellis and Selection Committee Player of the Season which was won by Paul Harris. Well to done to both on being the first winners of these awards.

Afterwards, Pete Cook (Chairman) presented the league and county competition awards. A reminder for those who were not in attendance, the winners were as follows;

Final Season Points Totals

The final season points totals are now available to view under;

Results & Stats > County Season Performance

Congratulations to Ian Carter who with 7/10 points at the Six Counties has jumped from 6th to 1st place. Ian finished in 39 points from his 33 matches, a single point ahead of David Danby & Sandra Gammage and a further point clear of Marilyn & Pete Cook. The mark of 39 is five more than the winning mark from last year.

I have also added a 'combined' sheet to show the points totals for the last two seasons. I believe that we used to have these records, but I don't think that they were maintained? If I am wrong and somebody has them then please pass them on to me and ill add all previous season to this data.

Sixth Place Finish at Six Counties Event

Hertfordshire finished in last place at the recent (12-04-15) ECCBA Six Counties competition at Braintree Leisure Centre (hosted by Cambridgeshire).

After our fantastic league performance we went in to the event high on confidence and hoping to challenge for the title, however we were last place for pretty much the whole day and the large majority of the squad massively under performed. We can only hope that it was just a bad day at the office and that it does not dent our belief that we are now a team that can challenge closer to the top rather than the bottom.

The match report (does not make for good reading) is now available under;

Mick & Sandra Hearn Memorial 4's

Posted by Pmcook1 on April 7, 2015 at 3:45 AM Comments comments (0)

We are very pleased to announce that the 3rd Mick & Sandra Hearn memorial 4's will be taking place at Ware Drill Hall on Sunday 20th September 2015. The entry form can be downloaded from;

Results & Stats > Other Tournaments > Mick & Sandra Hearn Mem 4's

As some of the proceeds from this event go towards funding for county bowlers for the National Championships at Potters the committee fully expect all members of the county squad who are going to potters to play in this event. Ideally we would like each member of the squad to be able to play with 3 non-county bowlers to maximise our number of entries. Although we realise that this may not be possible.

The closing date for entries is Saturday 22nd August or when 40 teams have been entered. If you have any questions regaridng this event then please let us know.

Hi all,

I have sent emails to everybody I have an email address this morning. Just to advise that we have now booked a restaurant for after the Six Counties on Sunday. The restaurant details are below;

The Orange Tree, Cressing Road, Braintree, Essex, CM7 3PH

As there will hopefully be 24 of us and the event does not finish till 6pm I have asked the resturant to send over the menu so that we can pre-order of food so that we are not home too late. If you haven't received the email I will bring copies of the menu on Sunday.

Stanstead Abbotts through to SCAPA Final

Posted by Pmcook1 on April 2, 2015 at 3:00 AM Comments comments (0)

Result from the second leg of the SCAPA Cup semi-final

Stanstead Abbotts 6 (35) - 2 (20) Symonds Green - Aggregate Score 9 (59) - 7 (53)

Stanstead Abbotts advance to the final bringing an end to Symonds Green's chances of securing a league and cup double. The match was almost a complete role reversal from last years tie when Stanstead Abbotts secured a 6-2 home lead only to lose the return leg 7-1.

Stanstead Abbotts will now either face Essendon or defending champions Little Hadham. Essendon do still have a chance of the league and cup double, they have never won the first division and have only ever won the SCAPA cup once before way back in 1986/1987.
