Quiz Night

Posted by Pmcook1 on February 12, 2014 at 10:55 AM Comments comments (0)

For those of you that are not already aware there is a quiz night taking place on Saturday 1st March (night before the county singles). This is being held at Stanstead Abbotts Parish Hall (where Stanstead Abbotts play bowls) and starts at 7.30pm.

There is no limit on the number of players in a team and the cost is £7 per head. The funds raised will be going towards the cost of Potters for county bowlers.

Therefore, we would expect to see the large majority of the county team present to help support this event. At the moment we have not had a great deal of response and the event is in danger of being cancelled.

Can you help fill in the blanks

Some of you might have noticed that in the list of previous winners for the triples and fours there is only a club name, I'm trying to find out what players from each club won so we can complete the list. Did you win , or do you know who won in each of these years?

Essendon quickly made up for their defeat at Stanstead Abbotts the previous night by beating Symonds Green at home on Tuesday (04/02/14).

Essendon won the game 6-2 (points) +16 (shots). This result moves Essendon up from 4th to 2nd in the table, they have 22 points from 5 games. Symonds Green in 3rd are just two points behind on 20 points from 5 games and Braughing in 4th are just a further point back on 19 also having played 5 games. Parsonage have it all to do if they do not want an immediate return to the 2nd division, they have 12 points from 6 games.

Stanstead Abbotts lead the way on 39 points from 7 games and play their final league game at Symonds Green on the 20th February where an       8-0 win would seal the title. More realistically if they obtain 3 points only Essendon will be able to catch them. They would need 20 points from their remaining three games (Braughing home & away and Parsonage away).

Stanstead Abbotts hosted Essendon in the first division on Monday night (3/2/14). In the fours Essendon dominated one game winning 16-2 but could not hold on for victory in the other dropping a four on the last end to lose 14-13.

In the pairs Essendon opened up a 7-0 lead in one game but again were unable to secure victory losing 9-7. The other pairs game was won by Stanstead Abbotts 11-5. Therefore the final score was 6-2 (points) to Stanstead Abbotts +5 shots in Essendons favour.

The result sees Stanstead Abbotts extend their lead at the top of the table. Essendon make up some ground on Symonds Green & Braughing above them.

The county pairs was held at Ware Drill Hall on Sunday 2nd February 2014. The 30 team entrants were split into 6 groups of 5 with the winners of each group and the two highest runners up advancing to the quater finals. The quater final draw and results were as follows;

M Grethe - St. Abbotts/Braughing (Winner Group 1) Beat S Gammage - Essendon (Winner Group 4)

C Hearn - Symonds Green (Winner Group 3) Beat J Carter - Braughing (Winner Group 6)

G Barraclough - Parsonage (2nd Runner Up) Beat A Page - Stanstead Abbotts (Winner Group 5)

P Cook - Stanstead Abbotts (1st Runner Up) Beat R Washbrook - Essendon (Winner Group 2)

The Semi Final draw and results were as follows;

P Cook - Stanstead Abbotts Beat M Grethe - Stanstead Abbotts/Braughing

C Hearn - Symonds Green Beat G Barraclough - Parsonage

In a close final Marilyn & Pete lead Rebecca & Craig by a single shot going in to the last end, needing a single to force an extra end or two shots for victory Craig had last wood but was unable to get shot and Marilyn & Pete took two on the last end.

This brought to an end Rebecca and Craig's run in the competition (they had won for the last three years). It also meant that Marilyn & Pete have now won all three county titles this year (Fours, Triples & Pairs) and will both be trying to complete the clean sweep in the singles on the 2nd March.

Revised Pairs Draw

Due to a couple of late withdrawals the pairs draw for Sunday's tournament has been revised. The 30 team entries have been split into 6 groups of 5. This now ensures that all teams will play a minimum of 4 games. Most teams are unaffected as group seven has been split to fill the gaps in the other groups.

The revised draw can be found in; Results & Stats > County Competitions > County Pairs

Revised sheets will be available on the day and can be collected from the competition secretary's score table, on the left hand side as you come into the main hall.

Pairs Draw

Posted by Pmcook1 on January 29, 2014 at 9:05 AM Comments comments (0)

The draw for this Sundays (02/02/14) has been made.

Rebecca and Craig Hearn will be looking to win the title for the 4th year in a row. Their run actually goes back further then that as Craig won with Tom Slade in 2009 and Rebecca won with Neil Tuckey in 2008. They have been drawn in group 3 with J Spearman, M Darnell & G Barraclough.

The only pair that have stopped Craig and Rebecca's run in recent years is Sandra Gammage & Rob Washbrook who won the title in 2010 for the third time (Previous winners in 1999 & 2003). Rob & Sandra do not play together this year. Rob has been drawn in group 2 with P Fennell, S King, P Cook & M Langley. Sandra has been drawn in group 4 with P Symonds, D Warner, I Marvell & V Rowson.
