Hertfordshire's annual general meeting was held at Essendon Village Hall last night (22/05/14). All members of last years committee were willing to stand again, with the exception of Mike Bennett (Chairman) and Sylvia Page/Mary Cobbold (Secretary).
Pete Cook was elected as chairman after being the only nomination. There were no nominations for secretary so Pete also agreed to fill this vacancy on a temporary basis on the proviso that all clubs speak to their members and a secretary is put in place before the next committee meeting. Alan Bull of Great Amwell was also voted on to the committee as an additional Committee Member. The Hertfordshire committee pass their thanks on to Mike, Mary & Sylvia for their efforts during their time in the posts.
The most important item on last nights agenda was the proposal for a reduction in the number of players required for league matches. The proposal was to enable teams to play league games with any combination of 8-12 players. If a team has less than 12 players (which would mean a player needing to bowl in the fours and the pairs) they would not be permitted to bowl as skip twice and would not be permitted to bowl on the same mat twice. This proposal was passed at last nights AGM.
This should enable some of the clubs that are low on numbers to retain their league status. It will also possibly make it easier for us to approach other clubs who have dropped out of the league but still continue to bowl (Hunsdon, Woolmer Green, Redbourne & Bramfield) to come back in. The new club that has been set up at Anstey are also now more likely to enter the league if they only need a minimum of 8 bowlers.
The full minutes of last nights AGM will appear on the website when available

The 2nd Mick & Sandra Hearn Memorial 4's Tournament takes place at Ware Drill Hall on Sunday 7th September 2014. In last years inaugural event 24 teams took part and the winners were Shirley & Mick Watkins & Andy & Gilder.
With earlier and more advertisement this year we hope to have a significant increase in entry numbers. Due to time and size restrictions at the Ware Drill Hall this event is limited to 40 entries. Therefore, to avoid disappointment please get your entry form back early.
To download the entry form please visit Results & Stats > Other Tournaments > Mick & Sandra Hearn Mem. 4's
Letters will be sent out to all clubs in Hertfordshire. If you are unable to enter full teams but wish to take part in this event then please let us know as it is likely that we will be able to find others bowlers to make up teams. For further details about this event or for any other information please contact Pete Cook on 07429 142525 or [email protected]

Congratulations to Paul Harris of Bedmond for making the ECBA festival of bowls singles final. He played the final earlier this evening but unfortunately just come up a little short as he lost 7-6 to Martin Campbell of Sunderland who is a multiple winner of ECBA festival of bowls events.
A great effort by Paul who done himself and Hertfordshire proud!
