Hertfordshire 15 - 21 Suffolk

Hertfordshire played their 5th and final ECCBA league game of the season at Ware Drill Hall on Sunday 16th March 2014.

In arguably our best display of the season we pushed Suffolk all the way and went down to a narrow 21-15 defeat. We were always in the game and lead 10-8 after 3 session and were locked at 12-12 after session 4. Even going into the final session 16-14 behind we had a chance to beat Suffolk for the first time if we won the session 5-1 or better. It was not to be as Suffolk held their nerve to take the final session and with it the league title. Congratulations to Suffolk who are worthy league winners.

Congratulations to all members of the county team who not only performed so well yesterday but throughout the course of the season. We finish in 4th place on 86 points, 10 points more than our previous best. We need to ensure that this is not a one off and continue to maintain our form and spirit for coming seasons. We have shown this year that we can compete and must continue to look to improve on what we have achieved this year.

Division 1 Permutations

With just a couple of games left to play in the 1st division there is still a lot to play for especially for Braughing & Symonds Green.

Parsonage who were promoted from the 2nd division last year have struggled a little especially away from home. They have only been beaten at home by Braughing and have secured three home draws. Away from home they have only managed to pick up thee points (1 at Stanstead Abbotts and 2 at Braughing). They still have one final away game at Symonds Green where they will be hoping to finish strongly and add to their 16 points they have from 7 matches.

Stanstead Abbotts have played all of their matches and can't be caught at the top of the division. Four wins from four at home and two wins, a draw and a single defeat (at Braughing) away from home has seen them gain 44 points from their 8 matches and have won the 1st division for the 1st time.

Essendon have had a consistent season and have all but secured the runners up spot in the 1st division. They lead Symonds Green by 8 points but have a far superior shots difference with both teams having one game left to play. Essendon have 34 points from their 7 matches.

The battle to stay up is between Braughing & Symonds Green. Braughing currently have 24 points from 7 matches and play their final home game against Essendon. They trail Symonds Green by two points (and 11 shots) and will need to outscore Symonds Green in their final match.

Symonds Green have 26 points from their 7 matches and face Parsonage at home in their final match. A 7-1 victory will guarantee their survival anything less then that and they may be relying on Essendon to pick up points at Braughing.

Division 2 Permutations

With just one remaining fixture to be played in the second division there is still lots to play for.

Hertford Heath who were relegated from the 1st division last season seem to have struggled a little bit this time round and finish in 5th place with 23 points from their 8 games.

Shenley started slowly but have shown real promise in the second half of the season. I think this is down to their continued support of the county competitions and they are quite clearly improving as a club. They finish in 4th place with 26 points from their 8 matches and have a SCAPA Cup semi-final with Little Hadham to look forward to.

Great Amwell have had a very steady season suffering just one defeat (at Little Hadham), with three draws and four wins. This consistent level of performance has seen them gain 38 points from their 8 games and secured an immediate return to the 1st division. They will have to wait to see if they win the title though as they can still be caught by Little Hadham or Bedmond.

The final match of the season sees Bedmond host Little Hadham. Bedmond have 34 points from 7 matches and Little Hadham have 31 points from the same number of games. Three points will be enough for Bedmond to secure promotion (but not the title), five points are required to secure the title. That makes it a little tricky for Bedmond do they go for the win to try and win the title or the points to secure promotion. Little Hadham need to win 6-2 to secure promotion and a 7-1 win will win them the title.

Stanstead Abbotts win 1st division

Stanstead Abbotts have won the 1st division for the very first time after Essendon were held to a 4-4 draw at Parsonage on Friday night. Essendon trail Stanstead Abbotts by 10 points with just one game remaining (away to braughing).

Congratulations to Stanstead Abbotts who won 6 of their 8 matches with their only defeat coming away at Braughing.

Congratulations Great Amwell

Congratulations go to Great Amwell who have secured an immediate return to the first division. Although they will have to wait and see if they are to win the title.
